suffocation pinnacle of bedlam album master tutak radio

"Pinnacle Of Bedlam", the new album from New York Death Metal veterans SUFFOCATION, will be released on February 15, 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records. The artwork was handled this time around by Raymond Swanland and can be found below.

Commented SUFFOCATION bassist Derek Boyer: "This artwork is a perfect portrayal of our music. The cover depicts lyrical content like 'scales tip in degradation' and 'hooded messenger of death is now set forth, punishment for all.' Raymond is an absolute BEAST of an artist!".

Added SUFFOCATION guitarist Guy Marchais: "The artwork for 'Pinnacle' brings another element to an already brutal album. Raymond knew exactly what we were looking for and delivered!".

"Pinnacle Of Bedlam" was produced by the band at Full Force Studios in New York with longtime collaborator Joe Cincotta. The mixing and mastering of the effort was handled by Chris "Zeuss" Harris (HATEBREED, ARSIS, SUICIDE SILENCE).

"Pinnacle Of Bedlam" will feature 10 genre-defining-bone-crushing tracks and also marks the return of drummer Dave Culross, who previously played on the "Despise The Sun" EP.

SUFFOCATION was among the inductees for this year's class of the Long Island Music Hall Of Fame. TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider received the Harry Chapin Award at the event, which was held on October 18 at The Paramount in Huntington, New York.

Rachel Barton, the Metal Violinist

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

rachel barton pine metal violinist

Classical music and Metal are not as strange bed-fellows as first seems. Both try to take the listener on a journey from A to B via certain key points emphasizing conflict/discovery/victory in a narrative style that’s as old as the hills.

Both rely on a sense of heaviness of life itself in their songwriting, classical from a typically more light perspective, and metal from a darker one. Both are full of references and allusions to literature and ancient history.

As classical violinist Rachel Barton, who plays in doom metal band Earthen Grave in addition to symphony orchestras, points out, "metal finds inspiration and even riffs in classical music", but even when it’s going in a different direction it draws from the same well of inspiration.

“When you listen to the great guitar soloists, they’re stealing licks from Vivaldi”, said Pine. She mixes Led Zeppelin, Paganini, AC/DC, Vivaldi and Black Sabbath in some of her live shows, when not creating crashing curtains of Doom Metal with Earthen Grave.

Classical music is named for its creators’ desire to allude to ancient civilization in form and ethos, specifically but not exclusively the classics – Greece and Rome. What could be more metal than obsessing about the ancient world? In the post-Renaissance world that classical music came out of, studying those older civilizations and reviving their aesthetic values was seen as enlightened and forward-looking, contrary to the “newer is better, always” argument we’re used to hearing about our own times.

Metal and Classical also have in common then that they are both a kind of romanticism: oddly traditional whilst at the same time being futurist and affirming. Through an embrace of the powerful and epic in life, both use an acknowledgement of life’s heaviness to find meaning in its struggle.

On this day a legend was born: Jimi Hendrix

James Marshall Hendrix (November 27th, 1942 - September 18, 1970)

Jimi Hendrix, born Johnny Allen Hendrix at 10:15 a.m. on November 27, 1942, at Seattle's King County Hospital, was later renamed James Marshall by his father, James "Al" Hendrix. Young Jimmy (as he was referred to at the time) took an interest in music, drawing influence from virtually every major artist at the time, including B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Holly, and Robert Johnson. Entirely self-taught, Jimmy's inability to read music made him concentrate even harder on the music he heard.

Al took notice of Jimmy's interest in the guitar, recalling, "I used to have Jimmy clean up the bedroom all the time while I was gone, and when I would come home I would find a lot of broom straws around the foot of the bed. I'd say to him, `Well didn't you sweep up the floor?' and he'd say, `Oh yeah,' he did. But I'd find out later that he used to be sitting at the end of the bed there and strumming the broom like he was playing a guitar." Al found an old one-string ukulele, which he gave to Jimmy to play a huge improvement over the broom. By the summer of 1958, Al had purchased Jimmy a five-dollar, second-hand acoustic guitar from one of his friends. Shortly thereafter, Jimmy joined his first band, The Velvetones. After a three-month stint with the group, Jimmy left to pursue his own interests. The following summer, Al purchased Jimmy his first electric guitar, a Supro Ozark 1560S; Jimi used it when he joined The Rocking Kings.

In 1961, Jimmy left home to enlist in the United States Army and in November 1962 earned the right to wear the "Screaming Eagles" patch for the paratroop division. While stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Jimmy formed The King Casuals with bassist Billy Cox. After being discharged due to an injury he received during a parachute jump, Jimmy began working as a session guitarist under the name Jimmy James. By the end of 1965, Jimmy had played with several marquee acts, including Ike and Tina Turner, Sam Cooke, the Isley Brothers, and Little Richard. Jimmy parted ways with Little Richard to form his own band, Jimmy James and the Blue Flames, shedding the role of back-line guitarist for the spotlight of lead guitar.

Throughout the latter half of 1965, and into the first part of 1966, Jimmy played the rounds of smaller venues throughout Greenwich Village, catching up with Animals' bassist Chas Chandler during a July performance at Caf‚ Wha? Chandler was impressed with Jimmy's performance and returned again in September 1966 to sign Hendrix to an agreement that would have him move to London to form a new band.

Switching gears from bass player to manager, Chandler's first task was to change Hendrix's name to "Jimi." Featuring drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding, the newly formed Jimi Hendrix Experience quickly became the talk of London in the fall of 1966.

The Experience's first single, "Hey Joe," spent ten weeks on the UK charts, topping out at spot No. 6 in early 1967. The debut single was quickly followed by the release of a full-length album Are You Experienced, a psychedelic musical compilation featuring anthems of a generation. Are You Experienced has remained one of the most popular rock albums of all time, featuring tracks like "Purple Haze," "The Wind Cries Mary," "Foxey Lady," "Fire," and "Are You Experienced?".

Although Hendrix experienced overwhelming success in Britain, it wasn't until he returned to America in June 1967 that he ignited the crowd at the Monterey International Pop Festival with his incendiary performance of "Wild Thing." Literally overnight, The Jimi Hendrix Experience became one of most popular and highest grossing touring acts in the World.

Hendrix followed Are You Experienced with Axis: Bold As Love. By 1968, Hendrix had taken greater control over the direction of his music; he spent considerable time working the consoles in the studio, with each turn of a knob or flick of the switch bringing clarity to his vision.

Back in America, Jimi Hendrix built his own recording studio, Electric Lady Studios in New York City. The name of this project became the basis for his most demanding musical release, a two LP collection, Electric Ladyland. Throughout 1968, the demands of touring and studio work took its toll on the group and in 1969 the Experience disbanded.

The summer of 1969 brought emotional and musical growth to Jimi Hendrix. In playing the Woodstock Music & Art Fair in August 1969, Jimi joined forces with an eclectic ensemble called Gypsy Sun & Rainbows featuring Jimi Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox, Juma Sultan, and Jerry Velez. The Woodstock performance was highlighted by the renegade version of "Star Spangled Banner," which brought the mud-soaked audience to a frenzy.

Nineteen sixty-nine also brought about a new and defining collaboration featuring Jimi Hendrix on guitar, bassist Billy Cox and Electric Flag drummer Buddy Miles. Performing as the Band of Gypsys, this trio launched a series of four New Year's performances on December 31, 1969 and January 1, 1970. Highlights from these performances were compiled and later released on the quintessential Band of Gypsys album in mid-1970 and the expanded Hendrix: Live At The Fillmore East in 1999.

As 1970 progressed, Jimi brought back drummer Mitch Mitchell to the group and together with Billy Cox on bass, this new trio once again formed The Jimi Hendrix Experience. In the studio, the group recorded several tracks for another two LP set, tentatively titled First Rays Of The New Rising Sun. Unfortunately, Hendrix was unable to see this musical vision through to completion due to his hectic worldwide touring schedules, then tragic death on September 18, 1970. Fortunately, the recordings Hendrix slated for release on the album were finally issued through the support of his family and original studio engineer Eddie Kramer on the 1997 release First Rays Of The New Rising Sun.

From demo recordings to finished masters, Jimi Hendrix generated an amazing collection of songs over the course of his short career. The music of Jimi Hendrix embraced the influences of blues, ballads, rock, R&B, and jazz a collection of styles that continue to make Hendrix one of the most popular figures in the history of rock music.

Psy’s “Gangnam Style” Passes Justin Bieber’s “Baby” To Become The Most Popular YouTube Video Ever With Over 805 Million Views

psy gangnam style master tutak radio

It was only a matter of time, and we’re happy this happened on a slow news day over the weekend: Psy’s viral music video hit “Gangnam Style” just passed Justin Bieber’s “ Baby” to become the most popular video in the history of YouTube. The video has now been watched over 805 million times.

The video made its YouTube debut on July 15 and currently has over 5.3 million likes and about 320,000 dislikes. Bieber’s “Baby” – which had a nice run at the top of YouTube’s charts since its debut in February 2010 – only has about 1.4 million likes and a whopping 3.2 million dislikes. At least Bieber’s corporate parents won’t be too unhappy about this development: since September, Psy and Bieber work for the same music label.

Thanks to Psy’s (and his management’s) relatively hands-off approach to fan-made remakes and parodies, the song itself has likely been heard quite a bit more often on YouTube. According to one metric, these fan remakes have garnered over 220 million views. The first live performance of the song on Korean TV also has a full 152 million views.

With the exception of “Charlie bit my finger – again”, every single video in the YouTube top 30 is now a music video and sadly, this list also includes the “Tootin’ Bathtub Baby Cousins” with 251 million views and “The Gummy Bear Song” with 265 million views. We’ll leave it up to future anthropologists to decide what this all means…

Rage Against The Machine to release 20th Anniversary box set on November 27

rage against the machine ratm master tutak radio

Rage Against the Machine to celebrate their 20th Anniversary, will release XX on November 27 a massive box set compiling the band's remastered 1992 debut album, demos and DVDs full of unreleased footage. Live clips range from their first full first concert at Cal State Northridge to their 2010 performance at London's Finsbury Park.

"One cool thing in looking at the stuff in this box set is the intensity of Rage Against the Machine live was always there," says guitarist Tom Morello. "It's not like 'Oh, they got a lot better as time went on.' It was pretty ferocious right off the bat".

Want proof?... In this exclusive clip, the mostly-shirtless band plays "Bombtrack" off their 1992 debut album, at a small gig. Zack de la Rocha spits furiously over the explosive riff and funky rhythm. "The band had certainly not broken at that point – we were still opening up for House of Pain in clubs in the United States", says Morello. "That is a band that is really hungry and ready to set the world on fire".

Morello wrote the classic riff well before Rage formed. "I actually came up with it when I was a freshman at Harvard, long before I moved to California. I had jammed that riff with a number of other musicians, and it just didn't sound anything like it did playing it with Rage Against the Machine, and that ferocious flow over that song. It's incendiary. From the very first time I jammed with Brad Wilk, we locked together in a way unlike anyone I ever played with. And lastly, and certainly not least, is what makes the hugeness of those riffs come to life is the Timmy C bass attitude, which is something that no one had ever recorded anything like that before. It took that monster-truck aggression distorted bass. In some ways, that's the secret ingredient".

ZZ Top ‘comeback’ album could have been double

Sunday, November 18, 2012

zz top 15th studio album master tutak radio

ZZ Top’s long-awaited 15th studio album could have been a double-disc set – but their label blocked the move, Billy Gibbons has revealed.

In September the band released La Futura, their first record in nine years, complete with explosive lead single I Gotsta Get Paid. It had been subject to a series of delays, not least those caused by producer Rick Rubin.

But speaking at the eighth annual Classic Rock Roll of Honour awards night last week – where ZZ Top were named Living Legends – Gibbons revealed fans could have been given a double reward for their patience.

Discussing the time lag between albums, he told Classic Rock: “Actually, if we wanted to we could probably put out another new record inside nine minutes.

“When we picked our songs for La Futura we had another 10 songs that could have made the grade too.

“But the label didn’t really want to release a dual disc in this rather topsy-turvy musical landscape, where promoting new material is so challenging.

“So we’re sitting on 10 more songs from the same session with Rick. We have that big ball of wax waiting to roll.”

Asked if that material could see the light of say in 2013, Gibbons said: “Well, I’m hoping – but things in ZZ Top world don’t always follow real-world rules.”

The Classic Rock Roll of Honour awards took place in London on Tuesday. The achievements of 18 rock and metal artists were celebrated, with host Duff McKagan overseeing presentations to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Status Quo, Anthrax, Rush and Pink Floyd, among others.

Captain Sensible of the Damned accepted the Outstanding Contribution award alongside bandmate Dave Vanian. He told Facebook followers after the ceremony: “It was a fun evening with some old chums – Lemmy and co, ex-producer Nick Mason, Paul Cook. I had to laugh when Mr V teased old fungus-chops Rick Wakeman with: ‘Ah, hello, Bob, what have you been doing since the Whistle Test?’

“Last I heard Nick Mason was inviting DV up for a spin in some rickety old biplane or other. Rather him than me.”

Lady Gaga rejected an invitation from Madonna

Sunday, November 11, 2012

madonna lady gaga master tutak radio

It is no secret the gap between the great queen of pop, Madonna and the eccentric Lady Gaga. Is Madonna jealous of Lady Gaga's current success? Or just Madonna is rejecting the fact that she could be her mother (because of the age)? For one reason or other, we can not cover the sun with one finger. And Madonna will always be the Queen of Pop.

In order to dig a little deeper into the crack between them. Madonna has confessed to her fans during a concert in St Paul, Minnesota, that she invited Lady Gaga to get on stage with her, and all she found was a rejection by the young lady. Ironically, Madonna said it's not the first time she is turned down and took the incident as a silly joke.

On more than one occasion, Madonna has shown that the song "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga sounds similar to her success of the 80 "Express yourself". The Queen of Pop even has played a mix of both songs in some of her concerts. and Madonna said to the NBC that she was happy to have helped as inspiration, in a totally ironic way.

Some insist on saying that Lady Gaga is used for Madonna to keep in the forefront of entertainment and news. Others say that Lady Gaga takes, nowadays, the same attitude with Madonna, that, at the time, Madonna used to take with Cher. The truth is that both singers will always have their fans and detractors. And both are part of showbussiness. But, not always, someone is able to reject the Queen of Pop.

Status Quo line-up to hit the road in 2013

status quo frantic four master tutak radio

Status Quo’s classic four-man line-up is heading out on tour next March. For the first time in over three decades, vocalist/guitarists Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt, bassist/vocalist Alan Lancaster and drummer John Coghlan will take the stage together to play six UK dates.

This celebrated version of the band – referred to by fans as the Frantic Four – play Glasgow Academy March 10, Manchester Apollo 12, Wolverhampton Civic Hall 13 and London Hammersmith Apollo 15-17.

Tickets are £50/£42.50 for London and £48.50/£38.50 for the other dates, and go on general sale at 9am on Friday, November 16.

The Frantic Four’s revival does not affect the previously announced festive 10-date UK tour from Quo’s current line-up.

Fans have been lobbying for the return of Quo’s former rhythm section since Lancaster – who launched a legal battle against the band after being replaced by John ‘Rhino’ Edwards in the mid 1980s – buried the hatchet with Rossi and Parfitt two years ago.

Rossi, Parfitt, Lancaster and Coghlan, all now in their 60s, were reunited in Alan G Parker’s rockumentary Hello Quo, sharing a group hug before performing a few numbers together at Shepperton Studios.

“Standing in a circle and putting our arms around one another again was just… lovely,” says Parfitt, “let alone plugging in the gear and playing together. After so long apart, that was quite surreal.”

Since this reunion, all four have remained in regular contact – “We talk  on Skype all the time,” reveals Rick – and quickly decided to take things forward.

“Now that it’s actually happening, my bum’s starting to twitch,” jokes Rossi. “Everyone expects us to be like we were in the 70s, and that simply cannot be the case.”

Asked why they were getting back together now, Rossi replied: “It’s for many, many reasons, including the fact that we’re talking to Alan Lancaster again. And if we don’t do it now, it might never happen. Come on, we’re old men.”

Despite the tour’s billing, it seems likely that there will be a bit-part role for Andrew Bown, the band’s regular keyboard player from 1976 onwards.

“We couldn’t do Rockin’ All Over The World without the keyboard intro, but Andrew won’t do the whole show because we’re very much aware that people are paying to see the Frantic Four – albeit being not quite so frantic,” Parfitt clarifies.

“This reunion will attract back a lot of our fans from the 70s,” reckons Parfitt. “The ones that lost faith when we stopped doing what we should have been doing and made all those covers albums. The idea is to use the double live album [1977’s Live!, recorded at Glasgow Apollo] as the template for the set. That’s the obvious thing to do.”

The Frantic Four say they won’t be recording anything new before the live dates, although nobody rules out the possibility of a new album should the tour live up to everybody’s expectations. This would result in two different line-ups running concurrently.
